Cohorts to Quarantine - 5.11.21

Between May 7 and May 10, 2021, 9-R was notified by San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) that individuals at Durango High School and Sunnyside Elementary School have tested positive for COVID-19, causing one cohort and certain identified students to quarantine. The schools and the district are working proactively with the SJBPH to make the appropriate notifications and next steps for those who may have been in close contact with those individuals.

9-R Public Budget Hearing

The 9-R Public Budget Hearing for the 2021/22 academic year budget will be on May 13, 2021 starting at 5:30 pm via Zoom. Come to learn more about how funds are allocated to schools to determine staffing, resources and services based on school enrollment, as well as other priorities in spending. Community Meet & Greet - Incoming Superintendent Dr. Karen Cheser

Incoming Superintendent, Dr. Karen Cheser, is hosting a community meet and greet on Wednesday, May 12 at 5:30 pm via Zoom. This is a great opportunity to hear from Dr. Cheser on her vision and initial plans when she begins in July, as well as ask her any questions you may have.

9-R Special Education Advisory Committee Meeting

Preschool and Kindergarten Registration for 2021/22

9-R is encouraging families to register for preschool and kindergarten for the 2021/22 school year as soon as possible. It is vital to ensure staffing and program availability to all of those who need the services. Registration is open and families are encouraged to register ASAP. The district preschool program is licensed to serve 16 students in a class, and currently the district is making budgetary and staffing decisions based on how many classes it needs next year.

Early Access Information

Durango School District 9-R has the opportunity to accelerate highly advanced gifted children under age 5 for kindergarten and/or under age 6 for first grade. This Early Access is for those eligible students if their birthdays fall after October 1st.
